What do wedding planners do?

Planning any event is stressful and planning a wedding is even more so.  There are so many things to consider, so many people to please and so much information available it’s truly overwhelming.

 Wedding planners have insider knowledge of the wedding industry. When you hire a wedding planner you’re paying for this expertise as well as overall organisation and design.

1. Know the suppliers

Experience wedding planners usually have a network of suppliers who they trust and they can often get discounted rates. This also means you spend less time researching reputable companies and more time choosing designs that you love.

Planners know the normal prices for venues, flowers, catering…you name it. So, when it comes to negotiations, they’re in the best place to get great prices. Handing over negotiations to someone else takes away the stress of micromanaging your budget.

2. Planning ahead for peace of mind

When it comes to your big day, you want everything to be perfect. But, whether your event is large or small, wedding planning involves keeping a keen eye on all the little details.  Wedding planners are there to make sure everything runs smoothly. So, you don’t need to wake up in the middle of the night stressing about which colour napkins have arrived.  Instead, you can focus on enjoying and remembering your incredible day.

3. Creativity and design

You might have a clear vision of what you want. Or, you might have no idea what your ideal wedding looks like. Either way, wedding planners usually offer design services to help you work out how to create your dream day in a practical sense.  Because wedding planning is a bespoke service, you should be able to have as much influence as you want over how your day looks.

4. Support for the couple

Weddings can seem overwhelming. How can you possibly organise food, entertainment, wedding favours, venues, transport, hotels decorations, flowers, outfits, and everything else for that many people? Wedding planners have seen it all before and know how to make things work. They can differentiate between little niggles and major crises, finding the best solutions for you. They’re calm and pressure, so you don’t have to be!

How much the wedding planners cost in the UK?

You don’t usually pay an hourly rate for a wedding planner. This is because you’re paying for their expertise and knowledge as well as their organisational design skills.  For full wedding planning services, you can expect to pay 10 -15% of your budget or final spend (depending on your agreement).

Some wedding planners also offer other packages, which are ideal for couples who don’t need a full planning service. You can find planners who cater to international weddings and elopements too, although this might change how much the wedding planner’s services cost.

Full wedding planning – organise every last detail of the wedding.

Partial wedding planning – be responsible for some aspects of the wedding while leaving others to the clients.

Choosing a wedding planner

Most wedding planners have portfolios or galleries online where you can view their previous work. It’s important to remember that wedding planner services are tailor made by design, so what you see might not match exactly with what you’re looking for. But it’s a great place to start for inspiration. Whoever you decide to go with, it’s a great idea to have a chat with your wedding planner before agreeing on an action plan.
